Certain conditions will favor the ingestion of poisonous plants -
cold weather, drought and herbicides.

- - When under drought or stress, Johnson Grass
produces an acid that is very toxic to horses and cattle. 1 seed produces 5,000
seeds a year and can lie dormant in the soil for 20 years. Also it destroys
other forage around it.
